On September 28, Barry Shiffman, The Banff Centre’s director of music programs, will kick off the Centre’s fall 2007 concert series with an introduction to the season’s roster of talented international musicians, followed by a special reception for musicians, audience members, and Concert Lovers. The evening launches a series of more than 30 concerts that will bring in acclaimed visiting musicians from around the world, and provide a weekly glimpse into the Centre’s music residencies.
The cornerstone of the fall season is the weekly Concert Night Out series, which unfolds in The Banff Centre’s Rolston Recital Hall every Friday between September 28 and December 14. Playing a variety of classical and contemporary repertoire, musicians in residence will be joined by visiting faculty, including composer Giorgio Magnanensi October 5, the Penderecki String Quartet October 26, pianist Jerome Lowenthal November 9, violist Steve Dann November 16, and more.
The concert series rounds out with Sunday concerts at Canmore’s Creekside Hall October 14 to December 9, Wednesday afternoon concerts at 4:30 p.m. in the Centre’s Rolston Recital Hall from September 26 to December 14. On Friday, October 19, the series will feature a special screening of Canadian filmmaker Larry Weinstein’s film Beethoven’s Hair. The screening will be hosted by Weinstein, and will feature a live performance by pianist Yuval Fichman.
Audiences can catch all concerts as part of both the fall and winter series with the popular Concert Lovers Card, which is available from the Banff Centre Box Office for $65 per person, and includes entry to dozens of concerts through March 28.
