The Banff Centre will be rocking this week as the cast and crew of Jesus Christ Superstar spend five days on site preparing for their newest North American tour in Banff. This new production of the famous rock opera will use the Centre’s renowned theatre facilities to finalize staging and rehearsals before performing a special preview on Friday, December 7.
Jesus Christ Superstar is the groundbreaking theatrical masterpiece by the legendary writing team of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Originally produced in 1971, the musical tells the story of the final seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth.
This current tour stars Ted Neeley, best known for his Golden Globe-nominated role as Jesus in the original 1974 movie. Corey Glover, lead singer for the platinum-selling band Living Colour, joins Neeley and the cast in the role of Judas.
Director Dallett Norris (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Can-Can, South Pacific) says, “What could be better than having Ted Neeley, so grand in the film, on board as we delve into Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s brilliant musical telling of this timeless story.”
Featuring songs such as “Superstar,” “Everything’s Alright” and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” Jesus Christ Superstar captivates audiences with its superb cast and energetic staging.
Tickets for all Banff Centre events are available through The Banff Centre Box Office: 1-800-413-8368 or 403-762-6301.
