The collaborative facilities and resources of The Banff Centre’s Paul D. Fleck Library & Archives will soon be enhanced thanks to a $250,000 pledge from The Key to Giving™ — the national corporate citizenship program of Great-West Life, London Life, and Canada Life.
“For almost 75 years, The Banff Centre has provided a scenic and creative atmosphere for professional development and lifelong learning,” says Jan Belanger, assistant vice-president, community affairs, for Great-West Life, London Life, and Canada Life. “Our pledge of support for the new library will have positive effect on The Banff Centre’s ability to assist artists and cultural and community leaders in their efforts to build stronger, more vibrant communities.”
The Banff Centre is a globally respected arts, cultural, and educational institution and conference facility. Its new, state-of-the art library and archives will serve artists and business and community leaders attending Banff Centre programs, deepening their learning experiences. The new library will be located in the Kinnear Centre for Creativity and Innovation at The Banff Centre.
Mary Hofstetter, president and CEO of The Banff Centre, is quick to acknowledge the impact of the pledge made by Great-West Life, London Life, and Canada Life.
“The Paul D. Fleck Library & Archives provides invaluable support to the artists and leaders in our programs,” she says. “The contribution made by Great-West Life, London Life, and Canada Life will enable us to improve the library’s resources, to the benefit of all who come here. We are immensely grateful for their support.”
The Paul D. Fleck Library & Archives maintains one of Canada’s most comprehensive collections of artists’ books, featuring many one-of-a-kind and rare works created at the Centre. Providing support to the Centre’s creative programming, the library also houses an extensive collection of music scores, recordings and multimedia materials, and books and periodicals. To be located in the heart of the campus, the new library will improve access to this extensive collection. It will feature desktop research stations with ample workspace and audio and video listening stations where patrons can access sound and performance recordings.
Construction of the Kinnear Centre for Creativity and Innovation began this spring and will take approximately two years to complete.
