Cellist Arnold Choi and violinist Jing Wang will be recognized as recipients of the 2008 Galaxie Rising Stars of the CBC award during the Banff Summer Arts Festival’s Music for a Summer Evening concert series.
The award is presented to emerging Canadian artists performing in The Banff Centre’s summer music program, and is designed to discover, encourage and promote new talent. Galaxie partners with numerous industry associations to offer cash awards and provide showcase opportunities, and a partnership has been ongoing with The Banff Centre for the past seven years.
Duo Vocalise, comprised of award recipient Jing Wang and Korean pianist Jeewon Lee, will perform the Mozart Bb Sonata, K. 454 in the Rolston Recital Hall on the opening night of the music series, June 14. Choi will play Brahms’s E Minor Sonata for piano and cello, with pianist Hamish Milne, on Friday, August 8. Music for a Summer Evening will be held throughout July and August in the Rolston Recital Hall.
Sponsored by Galaxie, the concert series showcases classical music from established and up-and-coming artists. Over 40 guest faculty and 200 international participants will perform including featured concerts by Barry Shiffman, Anton Kuerti, and Jens Lindemann.
