Presented as part of the Playbill Series and the
2008 Banff Summer Arts Festival
Juno Award-nominee Jill Barber will play back-to-back concerts in The Club, an intimate cabaret-style venue at The Banff Centre, starting on Thursday, July 3. The Halifax-based recording artist will showcase songs that draw on jazz, folk, country and alternative music over two nights of performances coordinated for the 2008 Banff Summer Arts Festival and presented by the The Banff Centre’s Playbill Series.
Already acclaimed with Recording of the Year and Female Artist of the Year at the 2007 East Coast Music Awards, Barber’s latest release, For All Time, was recently nominated for New Artist of the Year and Roots & Traditional Album of the Year at the 2008 Juno Awards. The singer/songwriter was awarded Female Artist-Recording of the Year at the Nova Scotia Music Awards for her debut album, Oh Heart, which was also nominated for two 2005 East Coast Music Awards and garnered a nomination at the inaugural Canadian Folk Music Awards. Barber is just wrapping up her latest recording, which was partly inspired by time she spent recently in residency at The Banff Centre.
She has toured extensively across Canada, and shared stages with Ron Sexsmith, Josh Ritter, Joel Plaskett, Nellie MacKay, and Kathleen Edwards. Barber has performed at various folk and music industry festivals in Canada and the United States, and will play The Banff Centre’s festival, A Rocky Mountain High, at Toronto’s Harbourfront this weekend.
The Club is a licensed venue and admits guests 14 and older.
