Presented as part of the 2008 Banff Summer Arts Festival
The Banff Centre’s new Banff/Citadel Professional Theatre program will preview Pride and Prejudice in the Eric Harvie Theatre from August 21 to 23 as part of the 2008 Banff Summer Arts Festival. Based on the classic novel by Jane Austen and adapted for the stage by Tom Wood, 14 established and emerging actors will perform under the direction of Bob Baker, Citadel Theatre’s artistic director.
Pride and Prejudice encompasses youth, romance, drama, and comedy, and involves elaborate sets, props, costumes, and music true to the period. Award-winning actors and program instructors Lally Cadeau, Tim Koetting, and James MacDonald will join the cast on stage.
The performance will mark the premiere presentation of The Banff Centre’s Professional Theatre program, operated in a unique partnership with Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre. The 15-week program is the only one of its kind in Western Canada and is the first partnership in the country between an internationally recognized training institution and a major professional theatre.
The play builds skills for actors and production and technical personnel in complex language, dialects, period movement, dance, swordplay, songs, and historical references. The initial presentation provided at The Banff Centre will be developed further as the program travels to the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton to prepare for its professional theatre debut in September.
Pride and Prejudice will run at the Citadel Theatre September 20 to October 12.
