The Banff Centre will host Macy on May 15 for her talk The Great Turning, presented as part of the Mountain Culture and Environment Speakers’ Series. The evening will also feature Canmore-based filmmaker Leanne Allison and the music of singer-songwriter Jennifer Berezan and special guest musician Joel Kroeker.

Based in California, Macy is a respected scholar of Buddhism, deep ecology, and the study of the relationship between nature, society, and science. She is a leading voice in movements for peace, justice, and environmental awareness. Now 80, Macy has combined her scholarship with four decades of activism and has educated thousands through workshops and seminars, and has also written eight books.

Leading the evening with Macy will be local adventure filmmaker Leanne Allison, director of the Gemini Award-winning documentary Being Caribou. The evening will also feature music composed specifically for Macy’s work by singer-songwriter and activist Jennifer Berezan, with guest musician Joel Kroeker. This public event will kick off the a comprehensive weekend-long workshop called Leading for the Great Turning.
