“In the end, we are liberated from our fears, and what we thought would be a simple evening at the theatre becomes a transcendental orgy that will change us forever. Most nights, anyway. Depends on the audience.”
After 500 years of ruminating on the spoils of his indulgent appetite for women, the ghost of Don Juan is summoned from Hell to repent for his sins and share his notorious tale so others may avoid his fate. But does he truly repent? Can you repent from loving too much? Find out when The Banff Centre presents The Erotic Anguish of Don Juan May 15 to 17 as part of the 2009 Banff Summer Arts Festival.
Created by the Calgary-based Old Trout Puppet Workshop in collaboration with Vanessa Porteous, Mercedes Batiz-Benet, and George Fenwick, the sexy and innovative production is in Banff as part of the Trout’s latest Canadian tour.
The Workshop’s signature style of creative and exuberant puppetry transports audiences into the world of Don Juan, the greatest lover in the world, whose legend grew out of Spanish folklore. He has long been a source of fascination for artists as the archetypal anti-hero in countless creative media from opera to poetry, but you’ve never seen him quite like this.
Note: this show contains extravagant puppet nudity. It is recommended for teenagers and older.
