Presented as part of the 2009 Banff Summer Arts Festival
Master facilitators from Playback Theatre will bring their signature brand of audience-driven, collaborative theatre to The Banff Centre on June 13, to look at the climate change crisis in innovative and creative ways. The event is being co-presented by the Leadership Learning Lab and Mountain Culture at The Banff Centre, and will be presented as part of the 2009 Banff Summer Arts Festival.
The evening will include an informal interview between Playback Theatre’s Jonathan Fox from New York and Christopher von Baeyer from Toronto about how Playback’s unique style can be applied to issues like climate change in any community. Using participants from The Leadership Learning Lab’s Acting on Climate Change workshop, the evening will also include demonstrations of how Playback’s unscripted, interactive shows take ideas, suggestions, and personal experiences from the audience and portray them on stage, to reflect common experiences to inspire awareness and growth.
Co-founded by Fox in 1975, Playback Theatre is now practiced in a wide range
of educational, corporate, and community settings in over 50 countries. Trained
as an actor, von Baeyer has performed and taught extensively across North America,
including Harvard Business School and is currently on the Advisory Board for
Leadership Development at The Banff Centre and the board for Playback Theatre
in New York. He has also been on the faculty of Shakespeare & Company in
Massachusetts since 1993. Fox has assisted in the creation of Playback Theatres
all around the world and is the first American to receive an honorary doctorate
from the University of Kassel in Germany for scholarly achievement in theatre.
