PREMIERE: MIASMA, Spectacles of Fantasy
A new Media Arts Video Co-production, MIASMA, Spectacles of Fantasy,
will premiere at The Banff Centre as part of the Banff New Media Institute
Symposium, Human Voice/Computer Vox. Directed by Allan Harding MacKay and
Myra Davies, with soundtrack by Gudrun Gut, Good Studios, Berlin, this
production will take place in the TELUS STUDIO in the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed
Building on Saturday June 23 at 9:00 pm.
Dainty ballerina, bloody brides, valkyries and suicides; the push and pull of
desire radiates from this poetic collage of women in masquerade. MIASMA,
Spectacles of Fantasy (Length. 18:35) marks and documents ten years of
performances by MIASMA, a theatre and digital media collaboration by Myra Davies
(Canada) and Gudrun Gut (Germany).
Award winning Canadian videographer and visual artist Allan Harding MacKay is known for his evocative portraiture and sensual handling of the female image. Here he uses documentary Miasma footage to compose a lush dream stream of women engaged in exploration of feminine identities, archetypes, and desires ranging from self-sacrifice to murder.
The soundtrack by German Electronica artist Gudrun Gut features a strong beat and the satiric wit for which MIASMA is known.
