Toronto's Continuum Contemporary Music performs Wednesday,
November 3 at 12 noon in Rolston Recital Hall at The Banff Centre. Works by composers
currently attending the Centre's three month residency program will be performed.
"This is a great opportunity for the composers in our residency program," says
artistic director Isobel Moore Rolston. "It is so difficult for composers to get
their work performed. Since Continuum is dedicated to presenting and promoting
contemporary chamber music, this offers wonderful possibilities for our composers to have
their work recognized by this well respected ensemble." With a reputation for
presenting broad spectrum, innovative programs and performances of the highest quality,
Continuum has rose from it's modest beginnings as a group of graduate students at the
University of Toronto to a not-for-profit organization of national stature.
Continuum has participated in Toronto's Massey Hall New Music Festival since the
festival's inception in 1996. The group launched its first CD featuring commissions from
recent seasons, in November 1998 at a Massey Hall concert.
Afternoon recitals this week in Music & Sound's Chamber Music Room include a November
2 concert with residency program participants Melody Fader, piano (USA) and Staffan
Sandstrom, piano (Sweden). November 4 features jazz saxophonist Silke Eberhard (Germany)
and fellow residency program musicians performing a variety of jazz and contemporary
music.
November 8 enjoy a variety of percussion music with Jonathan Eng (Canada) and Jonathan
McCaslin (Canada). Afternoon recitals begin at 4:30pm and are approximately one hour in
length.
Music & Sound's Fall Concert Series continues with a November 5 concert, 7:30pm at St.
George's in-the-Pines Anglican Church. Located at 100 Beaver Street in Banff, this concert
features musicians in Music & Sound's fall residency.
Musicians then travel to Canmore on November 7 for a Sunday afternoon concert at 2:30pm at
Policeman's Creek Drop-In Centre, 701 9th Street with host Isobel Moore Rolston.
