Then, on Saturday, May 27, some of the workshops prolific faculty and coaches will be featured in concert collaborating with the workshop participants. You can catch cutting edge jazz musicians such as Hugh Fraser (trombone), Kenny Werner (piano), Ben Monder (guitar), Judi Silvano (voice) and Tony Malaby (saxophone). This concert takes place at 8 PM in the Margaret Greenham Theatre call The Banff Centre Box Office at 762-6301 to reserve your ticket to this incredible event!
"The coaches working with participants of this workshop are not as much teachers in a usual sense as they are experienced musicians sharing their wealth by playing with everybody" says Kenny Werner, pianist, composer, author and artist-in-residence at The Banff Centre. This spirit of sharing music and playing as much as possible with a large variety of people (more than 80 musicians from around the world are participating this year) is an essential part of the workshop.
Days at The Banff Centres Music & Sound building are filled with jam sessions, master classes and combo rehearsals. Yet there is a lot of space for musicians to talk about philosophical issues, to meditate and to get in touch with their creative minds. Kenny Werner encourages this by addressing these topics in his workshop sessions, showing ways to expand musically by getting over creative inhibitions.
The emphasis put on performance is not only to the benefit of the many talented musicians participating in the workshop, but it also makes The Banff Centre an exciting place to visit for jazz lovers, as music is performed all over the campus. You might even catch some of the visiting artists jamming with participants at informal ad-hoc-sessions! For more information or tickets, please call The Banff Centre Box Office at 762-6301.
