Music & Sounds Winter Concert Season in Full Swing!

February is a busy but very exciting month at The Banff Centre as Music & Sounds Winter Concert Season is in full swing. This winter, we have a wonderfully diverse mix of musicians from all over the world! From jazz to classical , resident musicians present some of the best music in town throughout February and March.
Collaborations are at the heart of Music & Sound concert activities, allowing program participants the opportunity to work with distinguished visiting guest artists. Guest musicians in February include principal flutist for the Montreal Symphony, Timothy Hutchins, who is collaborating with resident musicians for a performance on Friday February 4. On Friday, February 11 at 7:30pm, percussionist Bill Cahn, from the Toronto-based percussion group NEXUS, performs with participants of the winter residency program in the Rolston Recital Hall.
Tuesday February 15, jazz pianist Tommy Banks perfoms in collaboration with jazz residents, and on Sunday Feburary 20 at 2:30, come and listen to up and coming musicians with the Calgary and Saskatoon Youth Orchestras in concert in the Eric Harvie Theatre.
On the last Friday of the month (February 25) two great visitng artists, pianist Anton Kuerti (Canada) and violinist Thomas Brandis (Germany), perform together with the resident musicians. This concert promises to be a delight, and is definitely not to be missed!
In addition to the great line-up on Friday nights, Music & Sound is pleased to present Wednesday "Music at Noon" concerts in Rolston Recital Hall, and "Casual Afternoon" concerts on selected Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 4:30 pm in the Chamber Music Studio. These informal concerts are pay-what-you-can, and feature collaborations among participants of the winter residency program.
Canmore Sundays continue throughout the Winter Concert Season until March 12. Join musicians from the reisdency program at our new venue, the Canmore Collegiate High School, for a dynamic concert repetoire. These informal concerts give you the opportunity to meet the musicians and learn more about the music they have chosen to play. They are co-hosted by Music & Sound's artistic director, Isobel Moore Rolston, and the students at Canmore Collegiate High School. Sunday concerts begin at 2:30pm, and are pay-what-you can.
Music & Sounds Winter Concert Season runs until March 17, 2000. The Friday night concerts take place at 7:30pm in the Rolston Recital hall, with the exception of the concert on Friday, February 18 at St. Georges In-The-Pines Anglican Church, 100 Beaver Street in Banff. For further details or tickets, please call The Banff Centre Box Office at 762-6301. Evening concert tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $6 for concert lovers. Sundays and noon-hour concerts are pay-what-you-can.
