Art of the Ensemble begins this Friday
This Friday, June 15, join us for the opening concert of the Art of the Ensemble, at 8 pm in the Rolston Recital Hall. This latest series of musical offerings, as part of the Banff Arts Festival, is aptly named. The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines art as "human creative skill or its application" and ensemble as "a group of musicians performing together". And that’s exactly what you’ll hear at each of the seven concerts in this series.
Over 40 international musicians, representing the countries of Canada, the United States, Scotland, the Netherlands, Italy and Australia, arrive in Banff to take part in the three-week Chamber Music program. Under the guidance of three distinguished visiting artists, this program focuses on some of the most glorious repertoire ever written – that for the small ensemble. Lorand Fenyves, a Hungarian-born violinist, has been associated with The Banff Centre since 1973. He is on the faculty of the University of Toronto. Cellist Laurence Lesser is the former president of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Canadian Bernadene Blaha is on the keyboard faculty at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
The Banff Centre has a world-renowned reputation for its commitment to the arts. Outstanding musicians are drawn to its supportive and intensive programs to flex some creative muscle. For audiences, this means world-class music and art from some of the brightest starts of today and tomorrow.
Art of the Ensemble runs from June 15 to the 29th. Tickets are $15 adults, and $10 for students/seniors. Take special note of the Summer Solstice Celebration on Thursday, June 21 at 9 pm in The Banff Centre dining room. Enjoy the longest day of the year with a serenade of sounds, a magnificent view of the smoldering sunset and a sweet slice of dessert. Tickets for the Summer Solstice Celebration are $18 for adults and $12 for students/seniors. Price includes coffee/tea and a selection from the dessert buffet.
