Also winners at this year’s competition:
As a result of a recent act of generosity by a member of the competition’s resident audience, the Banff
International String Quartet Competition was thrilled to announce six special awards, anonymously donated in memory of Melba and Orville Rollefson, from Minnesota and Saskatchewan. The six awards, in the amount of $1600 CDN each, were presented to each of the six quartets not appearing in the final round of the competition. "It’s wonderful that a member of our audience should be so moved by the performances of our quartets this past week to act so generously," beams Peter Gardner, executive director of the competition. "These awards recognize the outstanding contribution that the quartets have made to the success of this competition, and support everything we do to try and make this competition as inclusive as possible," says Gardner. All performances of the competition, including tonight’s performance, will be broadcast by the CBC on Eric Friesen’s In Performance (September 3, 4, 5 & 6 at 8 pm), and on Radio-Canada’s La Chaine Culturelle (September 10, 11, & 12 at 8 pm).
