International Music Competition Laureates Perform at The Banff Centre
Estonian Marko Martin, Laureate of Honens International Piano Competition, and Ukranian Andrei Bielov, Laureate of Hannover International Violin Competition, perform at The Banff Centre this Friday, October 5th at 7:30 pm in the Rolston Recital Hall.
They return to The Banff Centre after their successful tour of Germany earlier this year, and will kick off Music & Sound’s Fall Concert Season this Friday with performances of works by Bach, Beethoven, Avro Part, Prokofiev and Schnittke.
Andrei Bielov, Second Prize Winner of the 2000 Hannover International Violin Competition, was born in the Ukraine. Since 1997, Andrei Bielov has lived in Germany where he has studied at the Hannover Academy of Music and Theatre Arts. In 1999 he won third prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, and second prize and audience prize at the Romanini Foundation Violin Competition in Brescia. Andrei has a wide repertory and is equally at home as soloist and chamber player. He has performed concertos with orchestras in Russia, Poland, USA, Germany and Ukraine.
Marko Martin, born in Tallinn Estonia, is Laureate of the 2000 Esther Honens International Piano Competition and prize winner at the 1998 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Marko is gaining a reputation for his inspired balance between energy and lyricism, especially in the works of Brahms and Schubert. He is equally admired for his interpretation of music of the 20th century.
He studied at the Estonian Academy of Music and at the Guildhall School in London, where he received his bachelor’s degree in music and his Concert Recital Diploma. He now teaches at the Guildhall. In the 2001-2002 season, he will perform throughout Germany and Canada with Andrei Bielov, and as soloist with orchestras in Europe and North America, including the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada.
The Music & Sound Fall Concert Season continues with noon hour performances every Wednesday in Rolston Recital Hall (October 10-December 5); Friday Evening Concerts at 7:30 pm in Rolston Recital Hall (October 5-November 30); and Sunday afternoon performances in Canmore (October 21 – December 2).
