Music Performances Every Week at the Centre!
Missing music in your life? Well join us as Music & Sound at The Banff Centre presents its 2001 Winter Concert Season, with performances every week!
The Wednesday "Music at Noon" series begins this Wednesday, January 17 at 12:00 pm in Rolston Recital Hall with a performance of French composer Olivier Messiaens Theme and Variations featuring Deb White, violin (Australia) and Kenji Fujimura, piano (Australia). This series, along with all concerts presented by Music & Sound, showcases the work of the international musicians who have come to Banff for 10 weeks to participate in a self-directed music residency program. Both Deb White and Kenji Fujimura, for example, have come to Banff to concentrate on learning and perfecting a variety of repertoire needed for an upcoming international music competition.
Then on Thursday, January 18 at 4:30 pm in the Bentley Chamber Music Studio (in the music building), join us for a special afternoon recital with The Miró String Quartet the winners of the 1998 Banff International String Quartet Competition. This recital is a great opportunity for the Miró to perform in front of an audience before they go into the studios at the Centre to record their upcoming CD. The Miró will also be performing in collaboration with resident musicians on Friday, February 2 at 7:30 pm in Rolston Recital Hall.
This Friday, January 19 at 7:30 pm in Rolston Rectial Hall features a varied program of musical offerings, including the Indra String Quartet from Sweden performing Shostakovichs String Quartet No. 7; and a performance by jazz pianist/composer Paul Shorfel. Also on the program will be a performance by Scrap Arts Music - the high-energy percussion ensemble with five musicians playing on original, sculptural instruments. The musical experience continues with Lambda the Calgary-based trio that performs original music blending eastern and western musical traditions.
The music continues on Sunday, January 21, with the ever-popular "Canmore Sundays", now at the Policemans Creek Drop-In Centre in downtown Canmore. These concerts begin at 2:30 pm, and are a great opportunity to chat and meet the resident musicians after their performances.
For more information or to reserve your tickets, please call The Banff Centre Box Office at 762-6301. Friday evening concerts are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors/students. Sundays and noon-hour concerts are pay-what-you-can.
