Fred Hersch Performs Benefit Concert for AIDS Bow Valley
|
The Banff Centre and AIDS Bow Valley present acclaimed New York jazz pianist Fred Hersch in a special benefit concert on Friday, August 30 at 8:00 pm in the Rolston Recital Hall at The Banff Centre. All proceeds from this benefit concert go directly to AIDS Bow Valley, to support their HIV prevention and education programs throughout Banff, Canmore, Kananaskis, Morley, and Lake Louise. This is Fred Hersch’s third summer at The Banff Centre’s
Leighton Artists' Colony, and he is here for the month of August working on new
compositions. A pianist and composer whose career spans over 20 years, Fred
Hersch is among the foremost artists in the world of jazz today. He will perform
original compositions as well as music by Thelonious Monk, Cole Porter, and will
celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Richard Rodgers (the
American composer best known for his collaborations with Oscar Hammerstein). |

Fred Hersch is one of the most visible HIV-positive performers in the world today, and has raised over $250,000 for HIV/AIDS education for the United States. Hersch has been living with HIV for 15 years, and this benefit concert is Hersch’s opportunity to directly support the vital work of AIDS Bow Valley. HIV/AIDS and STD are on the rise within all sections of the population. Health Canada has reported a national increase in the cases of STD infections for the second year in a row. Amongst infection rates across Canada, Alberta rates remain high, with Banff accounting for a large number of the infections within Headwaters Health Authority. Tickets to this benefit concert are $15 adults, $12 students/seniors, and can be purchased by calling The Banff Centre box office at (403) 762-6301. Or, support your community by purchasing a Patron Ticket for $50, which includes a ticket to this excellent concert, and a tax receipt in the amount of $35. Also, with every Patron ticket purchased, two tickets will be distributed to students in the Bow Valley area. --30-- Click here to download 300 dpi version of this photo.[/communications/common/media_contacts_mediarelations_and_arts.htm] |
