Banff Centre musicians set to perform for an Invermere audience

The Banff Centre takes its resident talent on the road as musicians in the Music & Sound program travel to Invermere for a special classical concert at Christ Church Trinity on Thursday January 23, at 8:00 p.m. The concert is made possible by the Columbia Valley Arts Council.

The concert features the Australian-based Flinders String Quartet, consisting of Erica Kennedy, violin; Matthew Tomkins, violin; Helen Ireland, viola; and Zoë Knighton, cello. Formed almost three years ago, this quartet swept prizes at the Australian National Chamber Music Competition and the University of Melbourne’s Chamber Music program. They are currently preparing for the prestigious London International String Quartet Competition and the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition. Critics have marveled at the eloquence and youthful passion of their playing. Composers have been drawn to the foursome, composing pieces especially for them.

The quartet will play the Mozart String Quartet in d minor, K42; followed by Schnittke’s String Quartet No. 3; and will conclude with Brahms’ String Quartet No. 2 in a minor. Come take in the music of the Flinders String Quartet, who have been met with widespread critical acclaim, described as "exquisite" and "remarkable". Tickets are $15 and $10 for students, and are available at Dave’s Book Bar and Stober’s department store
