Classics and Jazz Highlight Fall Concert Series

Music lovers can look forward to a season of classics and jazz as the popular Music & Sound Fall Concert Series kicks off October 1 at The Banff Centre. The series continues to December 11.

The series begins a three-day ‘mini-festival’ to introduce this year’s musicians featuring concerts at noon on Wednesday, October 1, and at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 2 and Friday, October 3, all the Rolston Recital Hall. Repertoire and artists at these concerts will include: Brahms Piano Quintet in f minor with French violist Elodie Guillot and Norweigan pianist Benedikte Rydland, Bach Prelude and Fugue No. 4 performed by Hong Kong pianist Agnes Wan, Messiaen Regard de l'Esprit de joie performed by Irish pianist Isabelle O'Connell, and jazz selections by pianist Soren Bebe and vocalist Brigitte Mortensen, both from Denmark.

The Fall Concert Series is the public face of Music & Sound’s Career Development Residency. Over 12 weeks, 32 musicians from around the world will come to Banff to hone their music and career skills through rehearsal, performance, and opportunities to work with internationally renowned visiting artists. For Bow Valley audiences, this translates into a fall feast of world-class performances.

Friday evening concerts run through December 5 in Rolston Recital Hall and will feature artists such as Canadian trombone star Alain Trudell (October 10), jazz piano man John Stetch (October 31), the New Zealand String Quartet (November 28), and more.

The popular Canmore Sundays concerts kick-off October 5 at the Canmore Senior Centre Creekside Hall. Performances begin at 2:30 p.m., and are a great opportunity to meet the resident musicians after their performances. Donation at the door.

Take a mid-day break and catch Music at Noon concerts, every Wednesday at 12:00 noon until December 10 in Rolston Recital Hall. These concerts are pay-what-you-can, and feature chamber and classical repertoire. The Fall Concert Series will also include free performances on selected Tuesdays and Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the Chamber Music Room.

For more information or to reserve your tickets, call The Banff Centre Box Office at 762-6301. Friday evening concerts are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors/student. A fall concert guide featuring complete listings will be available in early October.
