Cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi Featured in Banff Concert
Cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, one of Japan’s most distinguished musicians and a
performer who once had the rare honor of playing for the late Emperor Hirohito,
will be featured in this Friday’s concert at St. George’s-in-the-Pines. The
performance is part of The Banff Centre’s Winter Music Concert series.
Tsutsumi has toured with Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Austrian Broadcasting
Symphony, the Tokyo Philharmonic, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra of
Canada. He has been soloist for the United Nations Day Concert at the General
Assembly in New York, and at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Brooklyn
Academy of Music. Tsutsumi has also been featured by Music from Japan in a
concert of unaccompanied works composed for him.
Tsutsumi will perform Kodaly's Duo with Daniel Carlson, violin, and Dvorak's
Dumky Trio. The concert will also feature the Brahms Horn Trio, Beethoven's
Spring, and a work for two guitars. The concert takes place on Friday, February
13 at 7:30 p.m. at St. George's-in-the-Pines Anglican Church, 100 Beaver St.,
Banff. Tickets are$15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $11.25 for
Concert Lover pass holders.
