September 24, 2004 Banff Centre Fall/Winter Concert Series rewards music lovers For the first time, The Banff Centre’s Fall/Winter Concert Series will feature a special pass for frequent buyers. The new Concert Lover Card allows music fans admission into dozens of concerts from September through March for $50. Modelled on the popular Arts Lover Card, a sought-after item during the Centre’s annual Summer Arts Festival, the Concert Lover Card is one of the best deals in culture this season. Presented by Music & Sound at the Centre, the Fall Concert Series kicks off this year with Music at Noon in the Rolston Recital Hall on September 29. The launch continues with a special Thursday Concert Night Out at 7:30 p.m. on September 30, then a Taste of the Series concert October 1 at 7:30 p.m. which begins with an introduction to the season’s musical line-up and ends with a wine-tasting and reception. Following the kick-off, the Concert Night Out series continues Friday nights through December 10, then runs January 12 to March 25. Each evening features performances by a selection of The Banff Centre’s musicians in residence, joined weekly by visiting artists. Programs range from soloists to small and impromptu ensembles, and works by a full range of composers, from classical to modern. For example, expect to hear pianist Marc Durand on October 15, U.K.-based oboeist Nicholas Daniel on October 22, violinist Gwen Hoebig on November 5, and marimba specialist Michael Burritt on December 3. Before each Concert Night Out event on Friday evenings, the Centre’s new artistic director for Music & Sound, David Hoyt, will host a pre-concert chat and wine tasting. Hoyt describes the chat as “live program notes.” He will discuss, from a musician’s perspective, the preparations that go into playing the evening’s program. The concert season is rounded out with a selection of by-donation performances, including Music at Noon in the Rolston Recital Hall every Wednesday from September 29 to December 8, concerts at the Canmore Seniors’ Centre every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from October 3 to December 5, and casual concerts scheduled for weekday afternoons throughout the season in the Bentley Chamber Music Studio at The Banff Centre. The Concert Lover Card is $50; individual tickets for the Concert Night Out Performances are $15 adult and $12 student/senior. Tickets for the Taste of the Series event are $20 adult, $18 student/senior.
