2002 Banff playRites Colony Participants Announced

The Banff Centre and Alberta Theatre Projects are pleased to announce this year’s playRites Colony participants. The 17 playwrights from across Canada as well as Australia and France will be in residence at The Banff Centre from May 13 to June 1. They will work closely with nine prestigious dramaturges and eight actors to refine their artistry. John Murrell and Bob White, the program’s co-directors, agree that this is a time of tremendous creative output for all the artists involved in this residency. The playRites Colony offers leading playwrights the opportunity to workshop their plays, hear live readings of their work, and share thoughts and insights with other artists, in what is typically a relatively solitary cultural industry. An artist-defined program designed to meet the specific needs of each participating playwright, the Banff playRites Colony is a partnership of The Banff Centre, Alberta Theatre Projects (with support from TD Securities), and the Canada Council. The playRites Colony is further supported by the Australia Council for the Arts and the France/Canada/Banff Fund. This year, the selected program participants include:
