Call for auditions for The Marriage of Figaro chorus Singers and young performers in the Bow Valley take note! The Banff Centre will be holding auditions for the 2004 Banff Summer Arts Festival production of Mozart’s classic comic opera, The Marriage of Figaro. Warm up your voices, dig out your opera CD’s, and sing along to practice your audition pieces! The Story Figaro and Susanna, servants of the Count and Countess Almaviva, are preparing to marry, but Susanna fears the amorous advances of the Count. Figaro and Susanna plot to thwart the Count's schemes, and thus ensure a blissful wedding day. The Figaro chorus calls for all voice types — Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone. Children between the ages of 7 and 11 years old are also invited to apply as supernumeraries (non-singing roles). This exciting chance to be part of a large-scale opera production will require those accepted to be available for evening and weekend rehearsals between July 19 and August 8, 2004 as well as dress rehearsals and performances on the evenings of August 9 through 14, 2004. The chorus auditions and supernumerary interviews will take place on Saturday, May 8, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., in Studio W-110 in the Music & Sound building of The Banff Centre. Singers should prepare an opera aria in Italian, preferably by Mozart. Please bring a resume of musical/theatrical experience, a photograph, and provide your own accompanist (singers only). To book an audition or an interview, please contact Casey Prescott at (403) 762-6186. | |
