Playwrights chosen for new four-week Colony program at The Banff Centre
This year The Banff Centre and Alberta Theatre Projects welcome the largest number of participants ever to the 2004 Banff playRites Colony. Twenty-five playwrights will travel to The Banff Centre for an intensive professional development retreat, now expanded to four weeks beginning May 10. The writers, including many of Canada’s finest emerging and established playwrights, will join participants from Australia and France, to focus on the development of their plays through live readings of their work, with feedback and insights from senior Canadian theatre practitioners. They will consult and collaborate with twenty experienced directors/dramaturges and eight versatile actors to help further investigate and refine their work.
An artist-defined program designed around each participating playwright, the Banff playRites Colony is a partnership of The Banff Centre, Alberta Theatre Projects, and The Canada Council. The playRites Colony is further supported by the Australia Council for the Arts and the France/Banff Translation Exchange. This year, the selected program participants include:
