Exhibition Explores Blurred Boundary between Public and Private Space.

(Banff) The Walter Phillips Gallery at The Banff Centre is pleased to announce the opening of Imaginary Standard Distance, a mid-career survey of works by the Vancouver-based artist Allyson Clay. The exhibition focuses on the relationship between personal and social space, encompassing works created over the last 15 years.

Clay’s work is seductive and daring, exploring the margin between curiosity and voyeurism that is currently receiving unprecedented attention in popular media. While the work touches on major social issues, it surveys the intimacy of interpersonal exchange. It will use a variety of media, from painting to small moving video images.

"It's a pleasure to be working with the Walter Phillips Gallery to launch the national tour of this exhibition which brings together Allyson Clay's work from the past decade," says Karen Henry, curator of the exhibition. "It represents an important body of work that explores female subjectivity and urban life."

All are welcome to a reception for Imaginary Standard Distance on Friday, April 26 at 7:00 pm in the Walter Phillips Gallery. A walk-through tour will take place on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 pm. The artist and curator will be present for both events.

The Walter Phillips Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5:00 pm. Admission is free.
