Open Call for Applications to the Banff International Literary Translation Centre
|
BANFF - The Banff Centre is pleased to announce the creation of the
Banff International
Literary Translation Centre (BILTC). Inspired by literary translation
centres in Europe, the BILTC is the first of its kind in North America. The
inaugural three-week residency, running from August 17 to September 6, 2003,
will provide literary translators an opportunity to work on a current project
within an international community of translators. The program is open to
literary translators from Canada, Mexico, and the United States translating from
any language, and to international translators working on literature from the
Americas. "We know this centre will be a leader in the field of literary translation, fostering intense collaboration as well as a renewed sense of artistry—because translation truly is an art form," says Joanne Morrow, senior vice-president, Programming at The Banff Centre. The Banff International Literary Translation Centre will be led by Linda Gaboriau, a Governor General's Award-winning literary translator based in Montreal, with the assistance of an advisory council composed of literary translators from Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Upcoming BILTC activities will include weekend symposia and training workshops for early-career translators. Literary translators are also invited to apply year-round for independent residencies at The Banff Centre's Leighton Artists' Colony. Application deadline: April 30, 2003 -30- [/communications/common/media_contacts_mediarelations_and_arts.htm] |
