The Banff Centre declares “Canada Day” on August 1

In recognition of
the generous support provided by the Government of Canada for this year’s Banff
Summer Arts Festival, Friday, August 1 will officially be "Canada Day" at The
Banff Centre. The day will feature prize give-aways at various events, an
information booth, and other opportunities to celebrate the assistance provided
by the government. Banff Summer Arts Festival "Canada Day" events include: Artwalk at 1 p.m. Walter Phillips Gallery A one-hour tour of The Banff Centre spotlighting many works from the Permanent Collection that are on public display. Tour begins at the Walter Phillips Gallery. Young Dancers in Performance, 8 p.m. Margaret Greenham Theatre Join the excitement of a dancer's first company experience! After five weeks of training, these young dancers from across Canada present enthusiastic performances featuring a highly varied program. Their energy and passion are contagious. Don't miss this opportunity to see the dancers of tomorrow. Orchestra Concert, 8 p.m. Rolston Recital Hall The Banff Festival Orchestra performs with soloists from the summer music program. Tonight's program includes a performance of the Rondo from Strauss's Concertino with soloists Patrick Hanudel, clarinet, and Mark Gaydon, bassoon. Also on the program, orchestral works of Mozart's Konzertantes Quartet, Hovhaness's Fantasy, and Strauss's Songs: Muttertandelai, Morgen, Allerseelen, Wiegenlied, and Standchen with soprano Martha Guth. Aboriginal Arts Studio Presentation, 8 p.m. Rice Studio, Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Building This summer begins a three-year creation cycle that explores Indigenous dances from Mexico and the Stla'limx (Salish) nations from Canada's west coast, as well as contemporary works of dance and Aboriginal music. Join our Aboriginal Performance artists in their studio to see works-in-progress. The Banff Summer Arts Festival runs July 11 to August 10. --30-- |
