(Banff) Get ready to be PopN, LockN, and BreakN with a series of Hip Hop dance classes in Banff, taught by Calgarys top teacher Tara Wilson.
Classes run for five Sundays: May 27 to June 24, from 12 noon 1:30 PM in the Sally Borden gym at The Banff Centre. (For non-professionals / No drop-ins / limited class size/clean gym shoes.) Sign up through the spring brochure of the Banff Corridor Continuing Education Council, or call the Sally Borden Building at 762-6450. The cost for the series is $50.00 cheaper than the city!
Popping, locking and breakin, or b-boy, are hip hop dances developed on the West and East coasts of the United States, and these moves will be taught in the Banff classes. Wilson says, "Ill go back to the roots, starting with Don Campbells great story of how locking began." (Don Campbell Lock originated locking, a dance involving wrist rolls, points, scoobys, and knee drops.) " Then well do Popping, a dance from Fresno California, started by a guy named Boogaloo Sam, (brother of Poppin Pete). It includes arm pops, leg pops, waves, stops, and twist o flex.
"Im very excited about bringing the moves from these dance innovators to Banff" says Wilson, "I think the community will get a lot of fun and value out these classes."
