The Banff Centre brings the arts to the Bow for a festive spring evening

CALGARY—The Banff Centre hosts a spring social event that’s not to be missed. The Spring for the Arts fundraiser, presented by Cohos Evamy Partners, promises to attract 800 of Calgary’s most festive arts supporters. This evening of bottomless beer and cider, great finger food, an arts
auction, and groovy music is casual, upbeat and fun.

Gem of a Reception is back. As guests arrive, they can purchase a glass of champagne with a gem inside. But only one is authentic: a beautiful Polar Bear diamond. An on-site gemologist will inspect each gem, and the winner of the genuine diamond is announced near the end of the evening. Guests can also start the evening with beer and cider, compliments of Big Rock Brewery. From the kegs, it’s on to the Art and All Things Hip Auction, featuring original works of art, as well as luxury services like massage, travel packages, and entertainment packages. Two not-to-be-missed highlights include the Arts Market where 36 Calgary artists will have unique, specially painted ceramic pieces up for bid in support of The Banff Centre, and Calgary artist Dean Stanton’s Paint by Numbers activity. Rounding out the evening are on-site tarot readings, palmistry, astrological readings, and henna tattooing. And guests will enjoy fabulous munchies provided by Sorrenti’s, Spolumbos and Wicked Wedge, then dance the night away to Calgary’s own Gringo Love.

Each year, The Banff Centre’s programs enrich more than 2500 artists. More than 300 Alberta artists participate in Banff Centre programs annually. Through the Banff Centre’s operating budget and the generous support of donors, sponsors and event attendees, more than $2 million dollars is contributed annually to Banff Centre arts scholarships. Many of Calgary’s brightest stars have received valuable training and learning opportunities at The Banff Centre and arts organizations across Canada are enriched by the Centre’s programs. All proceeds from Spring for the Arts support arts scholarships and programming at The Banff Centre.

Spring for the Arts on the Bow takes place this year on the Bow at the Al Azhar Centre,
5225 – 101 Street NW on Friday, March 30, 2001 at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are $35, and are available at The Banff Centre on Eighth Avenue. Phone: 571-1820
