The Banff Centre moves forward with Environmental Management Plan
An integral part of The Banff Centres philosophy is a strong commitment to positive environmental management practices. In keeping with this mandate, the Centre has long implemented policies based on compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations. The Centres management is building on these policies with the aim of reducing even further its environmental impact. "We take very seriously the obligations our location in Banff National Park places on us, and in order to demonstrate our commitment to excellence in environmental management, we are moving forward with the establishment of an Environmental Management System" says Norbert Meier, chief environmental officer at The Banff Centre. "We are very mindful of our impact on the environment, and The Banff Centres goal is to establish a leadership position in environmental management practices." The newest evolution in the Centres continuing efforts to operate with the least possible impact on the environment is its recent undertaking to work with IRIS Environmental Systems on an Environmental Management System (EMS), including a revised Environmental Management Policy. "The new policy will provide The Banff Centre with the tools it needs to assess, manage, reduce
and mitigate its environmental impact," says Meier. He says the EMS will help establish clear goals for the Centre and provide a framework for action with respect to managing the environmental impact of its programs, site and facilities. "We look forward to working closely with Parks Canada and the Town of Banff toward our common environmental goals so that The Banff Centre can continue to operate in a way that reflects our appreciation for this very special place."Contact:
