3rd Annual Banff Centre Housekeeping/Custodial Olympics sure to be
cleanest competition ever
Armed with buffer pads, scrubbing tools, and oven mitts, at least six teams of
professional scrubbers, dusters, and polishers will face-off at the 3rd annual
Banff Centre Housekeeping/Custodial Olympics on Thursday, September 18 starting
at 2 p.m. The event is in celebration of International Housekeepers Week that
runs September 14-20.
Competition will flare as teams of departments across campus take on teams of
Custodial and Housekeeping staff. Olympic sanctioned events include: modified
frisbee toss (contestants will be judged on their accuracy in throwing
floor-polishing buffer pads); a relay race featuring runners who have to
negotiate a racecourse while balancing shampoo, soap and lotions on a scrubbing
tool; and a bedmaking challenge – pairs of competitors will make a cot
blind-folded, tied together at the leg, and wearing oven mitts.
“This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the year-round efforts of our
housekeeping and custodial staff and to recognize them for their hard work,
especially during the summer,” says executive housekeeper Brenda-Lee Upstone.
The 3rd annual Housekeeping Olympics will take place outside behind Lloyd Hall
or, if it rains, in the Sally Borden Building gymnasium.
