The Banff Centre awards 2004 Fleck Fellowships to twelve artists
This year’s recipients of The Banff Centre’s Paul D. Fleck Fellowships in the Arts cross all artistic disciplines, from choreography to non-fiction writing to audio engineering. They include choreographer Crystal Pite, who is developing a new dance work for Les Ballets
jazz de Montréal, librettist and composer Michael Cavanaugh, who is working on a new Canadian opera, and exiled Bosnian poet Goran Simic.
Established in 2001, the Fleck Fellowships allow senior artists in all disciplines to participate in independent artistic residencies at The Banff Centre to create new work or collaborate with other arts programs at
the Centre.
“This group of incredibly talented artists represents the high calibre of accomplishment associated with the Fleck Fellowship,” says Joanne Morrow, senior vice-president of Programming at The Banff Centre. “They represent a great diversity in artistic genres, and we look forward to seeing their creative projects take shape during their residencies here.”
The Paul D. Fleck Fellowship Trust was established in memory of Paul D. Fleck, former president of The Banff Centre. The Trust allows for up to 15 Fellowships to be awarded every year in the fields of
aboriginal arts,
media and
visual arts,
music and
sound, theatre
