Acting with Integrity: Linking Ethics and Drama

Business Executives will be stepping up to centre-stage from February 21-24, when an innovative Leadership Development forum at The Banff Centre gets theatre professionals working with corporate leaders to explore corporate ethics and integrity. This is the second of four Thought Leader Forums, aimed at encouraging creativity in the workplace.

Entitled Ethical Governance—Creating a Climate of Corporate Integrity, this forum will call on the expertise of Thought Leaders and Master Artists, combining their ideas and techniques in order to push the boundaries of traditional business thinking. The premise of the forum is that ethical governance is critical to the future of our communities, our social infrastructure, our organizations, and our longer-term competitiveness as a nation. "The questions about how we foster an environment of ethical governance are complex and very personal, and the solutions ultimately rest with individuals of character making tough choices and living lives of commitment" says Brian Woodward, co-director of the Forum.

"We hope this will foster new perspectives about how to lead organizations effectively," says Forum co-director Colin Funk. "This forum is unlike any other course in leadership out there. The insights gained from combining art and business are truly paradigm-shifting; challenging commonly-held assumptions about how to lead. "

The forum will draw on the insights of Thought Leaders Ken Smith, Robin Higham, Dr. Caroline Oliver, and Dr. Catherine Tinker; and on the artistry of theatre director Simon Malbogat, director Betsy Baun, and improvisation specialist Bob Kulhan. These experts will work with participants as they explore leadership challenges within the realm of ethical governance through the framework of theatrical "casts".

A highlight of the forum will be a public panel discussion on Saturday February 22 at 8:00 p.m. in the Laszlo Funtek Room 122 at The Banff Centre. The panel of Thought Leaders and guests will discuss whether corporate governance structures ensure ethical behaviour by organizations. All are welcome to participate in this discussion, explore new ideas, and spark new questions.
