Leadership Development Book Award winner to discuss creativity in the workplace

David Horth, winner of The Banff Centre’s first Leadership Development Book Award, will discuss his book, which he co-authored with Chuck Palus, during an interview with faculty member Jim Force on Tuesday, August 5 at The Banff Centre.

"The Leader’s Edge: Six Creative Competencies for Navigating Complex Challenges" was selected from 25 entries and is published by CCL and Jossey-Bass Publishers. In the book, Horth and Palus say that it is possible for leaders to master the various challenges faced by today’s leaders, and to thrive, even in a turbulent environment. The authors are from the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina.

"Over-reliance on any one point of view or type of information can lead to blind spots, missteps, and sometimes disastrous leadership decisions," Palus says. "Only by tapping into key creative competencies can a leader make sense of rapid change and complexity and cultivate the ‘edge’ needed to be successful in today’s world."

Force’s interview with Horth is part of "Leadership Book Notes", a first annual event that will feature a collection of some of the most interesting and inspiring publications of the year that deal with leadership and organizational issues. The public is invited to listen to the interview, browse through the books, and mingle with Leadership Development faculty and staff.

"Leadership Book Notes" runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the TransCanada Pipeline Pavillon foyer at the Centre. It will also include a musical performance by Amir Amiri on santour and Linling Hsu on violin. Free cookies and tea will be served.
