CBC’s Paul Kennedy discusses the Idea of art and business at The Banff Centre

Ideas: Leading the Way – Creatively, June 14, 8 p.m.
Rolston Recital Hall, The Banff Centre, Free

Paul Kennedy of CBC Radio’s popular Ideas program hosts a panel discussion on creativity in the boardroom on Monday, June 14 at The Banff Centre. With a selection of Canadian and American experts in bringing a creative edge to the business world, the talk will range from discussion on similarities in work style between artists and corporate leaders, to how Canada’s business schools would benefit from taking on a more artistic approach.

The discussion is part of an ongoing series of talks and workshops at The Banff Centre that match leadership and creativity, with the idea that an artistic approach can only enhance the growth of a successful business, and both seemingly disparate groups can learn a lot from each other.

Over the past 26 years, broadcaster and documentarian Paul Kennedy has been producing documentaries for Ideas on CBC Radio One. Ideas is a wide-ranging program about contemporary thought that covers politics, social issues, arts and culture, biography, and history.

Panel participants include Nan Crawford of San Francisco-based Pacific Playback Theatre, whose creative leadership training programs have included execs from companies such as Office Depot, Hewlett Packard, and Target. Visual artist Linda Naiman has helped organizations such as UBC, BP International, and Canada Steamship Lines to develop programs in collaborative leadership, creativity and innovation. Steve Taylor, an assistant professor of management at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts, has developed research projects into applying arts models such as storytelling and theatre to leadership.
