MEDIA RELEASE |
The 2000 Banff Mountain Book Festival is seeking stories and images that capture the challenge of mountain experiences. The 7th annual festival, presented by Canadian Mountain Holidays, will take place November 15, 2000 at the Banff Centre.
The Banff Mountain Book Festival is the largest book festival of its kind in the world. Each year, the festival brings the spirit of outdoor adventure and the tradition of mountain literature to Banff, uniting writers, publishers, editors, photographers and, of course, readers. Featuring guest speakers, readings, seminars, an international book competition, a book fair, and book signings and launches, the festival offers a wide spectrum of experiences for the participants and the audience.
An international jury will judge the submissions for awards in four categories including Mountain Literature, Mountain Exposition, Mountain Image, and Adventure Travel. In addition, they will select the best overall book, regardless of category. Grand Prize winner in 1999 was The Totem Pole: And a Whole New Adventure by Welsh climber Paul Pritchard.
Submissions must be in English, except in the category of Mountain Image, where submissions in all languages are acceptable. Seven copies of each submission must be received at the festival office in Banff by August 15, 2000. (Five of the copies are required for the judging process, and two copies will be added to the Banff Centre for Mountain Culture Archive Collection). Entry forms are available by contacting the festival office or through the festival web site at www.banffcentre.ab.ca/CMC/
Special guests at the 2000 Banff Mountain Book Festival include Bradford Washburn, Thomas Hornbein, Mick Fowler, Royal Robbins, Yvon Chouinard, Lynn Hill, Peter Croft, Leo Houlding and Todd Skinner.
The Banff Centre for Mountain Culture promotes understanding and appreciation of the worlds mountain places by creating opportunities for people to share and find inspiration in mountain experiences, ideas, and visions.
