For immediate release January 31, 2005 Quartango journeys to the heart of the tango
Quartango, Canada’s pre-eminent tango ensemble, will be joined by Argentinean dancers Roxana and Fabian for a performance at The Banff Centre’s Margaret Greenham Theatre on Saturday, February 12 at 8 p.m. When four classically trained musicians come together to explore their passion for tango, the result is nothing short of magical. With originality, superb musicianship, impeccable arrangements and engaging rapport with the audience, they take us to the very heart and soul of this music — offering a journey ranging from the best-loved tangos to tango Nuevo. For their return visit to Banff, Quartango team up with two Argentine dancers — Roxana and Fabian — for an evening of sensual dance steps and spirited music where melody and movement combine in perfect harmony. For more than 20 years, musicians Noémi Racine Gaudreault (violin), René Gosselin (double bass), Michel Fourner (piano) and Denis Plante (bandoneon) have come together to explore and express their passion for the tango. Quartango has taken the tango to new heights, drawing on a variety of genres such as classical, jazz, salsa, Celtic and popular music. Argentinean dancers Roxana and Fabian, who had a cameo appearance in the 2002 film The Tuxedo, a DreamWorks release starring Jackie Chan, are Toronto-based performers and teachers of the dance of their native Argentina. They add an exciting visual component to Quartango’s polished yet emotionally moving performances of beloved classic tangos and original compositions. The Banff Centre’s Playbill Series continues through May with performances by artists including The Bills (January 29), Mae Moore and Lester Quitzau (February 18), Steve Earle and the Dukes (February 25), Habib Koité (March 11), Orchid Ensemble (March 13), Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (April 2), John Hammond (April 9), Jeff Healey (April 22), Harry Manx (April 23), and Jesse Cook (May 20). -30- High resolution, downloadable image of Quartango.
