"My wife and I often take walks along the Bow River, and I usually take a camera along. This image was captured in Bowmount Recreational area in Calgary. I discovered this small flower just as the sun was setting over the Rocky Mountains. I lay down on my belly and used a wide-angle lens (20-30mm zoom) and a digital camera (Nikon D1). I returned the following week to capture many more photos of prairie crocuses surrounded by a spring snowfall."

Robert Berdan owns and operates Science & Art Multimedia in Calgary, Alberta. His business provides Web development and training and a variety of photography services. Robert specializes in nature, science and virtual-reality imaging. He loves to teach and offers a variety of photography workshops including digital-photography, wildflower and waterfall workshops in Alberta and British Columbia. Robert won two awards in the 2002 Banff Mountain Photography Competition, and his photos have been published in a variety of scientific journals and photo magazines.
