On September 17 author Alan Weisman will speak in Banff about his bestselling book The World Without Us, a critically acclaimed work that steps back from the heated environmental debates of the day, offering a wholly original approach to questions of humanity's impact on the planet. Weisman examines how our planet would respond without the pressures of human presence, and asks us to envision our Earth without us. He will speak about his experiences writing The World Without Us, his thoughts on the current environmental atmosphere, and answer questions from the audience.
Weisman is one of the most esteemed science writers of our time, and his book is on the New York Times Best-Sellers list.
A book sale and signing will follow the event. This is one of only two stops for Alan Weisman in western Canada. Not to be missed!

Advance Praise for
The World Without Us
“If a virulent virus — or even the Rapture — depopulated Earth overnight, how long before all trace of humankind vanished? That’s the provocative, and occasionally puckish, question posed by Weisman in this imaginative hybrid of solid science reporting and morbid speculation… From a patch of primeval forest in Poland to monumental underground villages in Turkey, Weisman’s enthralling tour of the world of tomorrow explores what little will remain of ancient times while anticipating, often poetically, what a planet without us would be like.”
—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Weisman is a thoroughly engaging and clarion writer fueled by curiosity and determined to cast light rather than spread despair. His superbly well researched and skillfully crafted stop-you-in-your-tracks report stresses the underappreciated fact that humankind’s actions create a ripple effect across the web of life.”
