Hans Gmoser

In co-operation with the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Canadian Mountain Holidays and filmmaker Guy Clarkson, the Banff Mountain Film Festival is proud to screen a selection of films by Hans Gmoser at this year’s festival. Gmoser, who died earlier this year as a result of injuries suffered while cycling, is greatly missed by the mountain community both here at home and abroad. He "laid the foundation of modern mountaineering in Canada," according to Chic Scott, veteran climber, guide, skier, mountain historian, and writer. This event will commemorate Gmoser’s outstanding work as an adventure filmmaker. He produced ten feature-length and numerous shorter films over the course of his career, a selection of which will be presented, with his own narration. The Gmoser family has indicated that Hans Gmoser would be honoured by a contribution to the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides. The ACMG will have a booth in the Max Bell lobby where donations can be made.
