Jean Afanassieff
Of Russian origin, Jean Afanassieff was born in Paris in 1953.
Over the last 20 years, he has directed over 35 documentary films
on high adventure, science and the environment. He has worked from
Russia to the Antarctic, filming in locations such as Nepal,
Pakistan, Tibet, Siberia, Central Asia, Kamchatka, North America,
the Alps and Patagonia. First and foremost an alpinist,
Afanassieff was in 1978 the first Frenchman to reach the summit of
Everest. He also holds a world record for skiing down the mountain
from an altitude of 8300 metres. Afanassieff is currently working
on several documentary films in Russia and France.
