Maria Coffey

Maria Coffey is the author of Fragile Edge, an account of her relationship with the British mountaineer Joe Tasker and of her journey to Everest in the wake of his death on the Northeast Ridge. First published in 1989, new editions of the book have recently appeared in Canada, the U.S.A. and Italy.

Coffey has written a number of adventure travel books including A Boat in Our Baggage, Three Moons in Vietnam, Sailing Back in Time and her latest title, Visions of the Wild: A Voyage by Kayak around Vancouver Island, which she co-wrote with her husband, Dag Goering. She is also the author of three books for children. She is presently working on her next book, Where the Mountain Casts Its Shadow: The Personal Costs of Climbing, to be published by St. Martin’s Press, New York.

Coffey lives in British Columbia, and with Goering guides kayaking trips worldwide through their company Hidden Places.
