
Maria Coffey
Maria Coffey is the author of Fragile Edge, an account
of her relationship with the British mountaineer Joe Tasker and of
her journey to Everest in the wake of his death on the Northeast
Ridge. First published in 1989, new editions of the book have
recently appeared in Canada, the U.S.A. and Italy.
Coffey has written a number of adventure travel books including
A Boat in Our Baggage, Three Moons in Vietnam,
Sailing Back in Time and her latest title, Visions of the
Wild: A Voyage by Kayak around Vancouver Island, which she
co-wrote with her husband, Dag Goering. She is also the author of
three books for children. She is presently working on her next
book, Where the Mountain Casts Its Shadow: The Personal Costs
of Climbing, to be published by St. Martin’s Press, New York.
Coffey lives in British Columbia, and with Goering guides
kayaking trips worldwide through their company Hidden Places.
