Marcela Cañón
Marcela Cañón is a marine biologist with a masters
degree in Environmental Sciences, Legislation and
Management, and with training in sustainable
development. Ms. Cañón has been working as advisor for
the Natural National Parks System Unit of the Ministry
of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development in
Colombia, supporting the implementation of policies,
plans, programs, and particularly projects related to
biodiversity conservation in areas of the National Parks
System and the National Protected Areas System,
including Mountain Protected Areas. Previously in the
Technical Department of the Environment of Bogotá, she
was in charge of land planning, conservation, community
and institutional consultation, implementation,
evaluation and monitoring of projects as Program
Coordinator of “Cerros Orientales (Eastern Range)
management” and Program Coordinator of “Wetlands
restoration and recovery”. She has been an Ecology
lecturer in the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano (Bogotá),
and participated in the discussion of the protected
areas program - Convention of Biological Diversity, COP
VII.
