Roger Good
Roger has been involved in mountain research, management
and rehabilitation since 1964. His research
interests/programs cover alpine plant ecology,
groundwater communities and hydrology, catchment
stability and rehabilitation/revegetation after the
removal of grazing and the construction of
infrastructure (i.e. the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric
scheme and ski resorts), and fire management and plant
responses to fire events in mountain environments.
Roger was one of a small group who developed and
established the cross-border (interstate) Alpine
National Parks Cooperative Management Program in 1986
and remains a major contributor to its cooperative
management projects. Roger is a long-term member of the
international mountain organisation and a contributor to
many mountain forums (including research programs in
France and Austria) and events including being
Australia’s coordinator of the IYOM 2002 events. Roger
has written many papers on mountain ecology and
management and has written and edited three books on the
scientific significance and natural heritage values of
the Australian Alps. Roger is currently the Senior Project Manager
(Mountain Catchments), NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
