Bonita (Bonnie) McFarlane
Dr. McFarlane is a Senior Human Dimensions Specialist
with Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Service (CFS).
She is head of Non-timber Valuation and Public Values
research for the CFS. Some of her research interests
include forest recreation, values and attitudes of
stakeholders, public preferences for forest and
recreation management, and perceptions of risk
associated with forest management. Some current research
initiatives include the impact of wild fire on
recreation values, homeowners’ perceptions of risk from
wild fire at the wildland-urban interface and the
factors that influence mitigation activities by
homeowners, stakeholders’ perspectives of mountain pine
beetle management in national parks, and human
dimensions of biodiversity conservation. Dr. McFarlane
is an adjunct professor in the Dept. of Rural Economy,
University of Alberta.
