Poster Title: Integrating management, research and monitoring: a central
Mexico case
Poster Abstract: A national park in the mountains of
Central Mexico is used as a theoretical case to exemplify how a
comprehensive management system for protected areas could be
applied to integrate management concerns and research needs. The
framework brings together the strengths of two environmental
management approaches, ecosystem-based management and
environmental management systems, in order to help protect native
biodiversity and improve stakeholders' participation. The purpose
of this framework is to provide managers
and other interested parties with an instrument that guides
implementation of management initiatives and that considers
environmental and socio-economic concerns as well.
