Kathy Martin

Kathy Martin is a Senior Research Scientist with the Canadian Wildlife
Service and a Professor in Forestry at the University of British Columbia,
where she teaches conservation biology. Since 1988, she has held faculty
positions at the Universite de Sherbrooke, Quebec and at the University of
Toronto; and in 1993, moved to her present position in British
Columbia. Kathy conducts research on the ecology and conservation of
birds in alpine, arctic and forest systems. Research in her lab involves
population ecology of alpine grouse, and responses of forest songbird and
cavity nesting birds to anthropogenic and natural disturbances. Kathy
recently established The Centre for Alpine Studies (UBC) to profile
ecological and conservation research in high elevation environments.
Kathy has authored over 65 scientific papers and book chapters on avian
ecology, behaviour and population monitoring. She has also written two
natural history books and numerous popular articles. Kathy has served as
Associate Editor for the AUK, Wildlife Biology and Canadian Journal of
Forest Research. She is the Canadian representative to the IUCN/ICBP
Specialist
Group for the Conservation of Galliformes. She currently serves as
President of the Society of Canadian Ornithologists. Kathy obtained
degrees at the University of Prince Edward Island (B.Sc.), University of
Alberta (M.Sc.) and QueenUs University (Ph.D.), Ontario.
