Ecological and Earth Sciences in Mountain Areas: Sept. 6-10, 2002

Vicki Sahanatien

Vicki supervises the research, monitoring and planning functions in the Nunavut Field Unit of Parks Canada. The field unit is comprised of Auyuittuq, Sirmilik and Quttinirpaaq National Parks, as well as 11 National Historic Sites. Vicki has been with Parks Canada for about 19 years in various capacities: park warden, planner, park ecologist and now ecosystem secretariat manager. Throughout this time natural resource management has remained the emphasis of her work. She has 7 years of experience in the arctic national parks – all of which are mountainous protected areas. Vicki has a BSc from University of Guelph and a MES from York University. She loves mountain and wilderness environments – latest adventure was a 16 day traverse across the glaciers and ice fields of Bylot Island to the Lancaster Sound floe edge.
