Kathy A. Tonnessen

Kathy Tonnessen, PH.D. is the Research Coordinator for the
National Park Service, Rocky Mountain Cluster of parks and the NPS liaison
to the Rocky Mountains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, in Missoula,
Montana, USA. She is also an adjunct professor with the School of
Forestry, University of Montana. Kathy has served as program manager for a
number of major studies of high elevation ecosystems in the western U.S.,
including the Sierra Nevada and the Rocky Mountains. Her research
interests include the deposition of pollutants, especially in snow. She
currently is the chair of the U.S. National Atmospheric Deposition
Program. She established one of the first Cooperative Ecosystem Studies
Units at the University of Montana in Missoula. In this position she
coordinates research and technical assistance for the Rocky Mountain
national parks, including Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Rocky
Mountain NPs. Kathy is a long-time member of the International Air Quality
Advisory Board of the International Joint Commission, a U.S.-Canada group
that advises the IJC on air quality issues in the border region.
